The benefits of organic grass fed beef

The term ‘organic’ can be applied to both grain fed and grass fed beef, as long as the cattle meets organic standards. This means that people living an organic lifestyle might choose either as their preferred meat. However, while organic grain fed beef might be certified organically, it lacks the nutritional values of organic grass fed beef and can be less healthy.

‘Organic’ meat refers to the product of animals which have been fed on purely natural plant products, without the added chemicals and growth hormones some farms pump their animals with. Supermarket meats often use this process but most of the meat you find on shelves is considerably less nutritious and often bad for your health.

There are no required standards that a farmer has to adhere to; therefore, the meat they produce may be cheap but lacking in vitamins and full of chemicals. Even some grass fed beef is unnatural due to the grass containing pesticides and fertilisers. This produces lower quality beef as an end product.

Research has shown that organic grass fed beef has considerably more health benefits than its counterparts because it is lower in saturated fats, it is a very rich source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and vitamin E. CLA has been shown to fight off allergies and cancerous tumours, giving organic grass fed beef more beneficial properties than any other type of beef. This is why it is important to know exactly where your food is coming from, especially when supermarkets acquire mass amounts. Sometimes, it is often more beneficial to purchase beef from online butchers, so the source is verified.
