Farmer celebrates milestone birthday by leading cattle show parade

The head of a farming family recently marked his upcoming 100th birthday by leading a parade of cattle at this year’s Stokesley Show. He was met with much applause and celebration at the venue in Thirsk.

At the event, which is in its 141st year, Walter Bainbridge was welcomed very warmly as John Seymour, the commentator, informed the crowds that his birthday was approaching. Seymour also described him as “the doyen of a very large farming family in Seamer” and said the honour of leading the parade was the perfect way to mark the occasion.

Across the UK, there are many farmers and consumers who would describe themselves as lovers of beef, including varieties such as grass fed beef and dry aged beef. The entrants to the show were praised very highly this year, and Mr Seymour believes it was the best he has seen in the north of England. As well as high quality entrants, the show received many visitors because of the good weather, and they were entertained by the motorbike stunts, the Felling Brass Band and a host of other stalls.

According to Janette Hugill, the show’s secretary, the day’s attractions were complemented by a fantastic turnout. She also said that the atmosphere is always great as the event has such a good reputation.
